Review of Futuresonic
In the heart of the northern quarter, Manchester , Simple hosted Persona a futuresonic event for the annual festival celebrating its tenth year. This time Persona's music reflected electronic music and used creative visuals to suit the festival.

On hot sticky night the event kicked off with some atmospheric beats, varied vocals and broken up rhythms for the receptive and very much open-minded crowd. The Persona crew all added their sound effects to the dj-ing of Lee Gosnay. Mike C and Tony used a variety of Percussive instruments, DJ N.E.O and Rascal added some scratching of the highest order back to back, Noise played in some lovely funky chords and vocoder effects whilst the visuals by J-Guf were creative and always in tune with the style of music played.

As the room filled up Lee started playing some really deep house with an almost hypnotic feel which got the heads nodding and the hips shaking. The crowd soaked up the vibe created and for that matter the heat aswell! The chemistry between the Persona crew was becoming more evident as the event proceeded.

Half way through the evening and the tempo really picked up and at just the right time too. Tougher sounds, acid bass lines and other experiment sounds were brought to the fore and by the time a electronic break beat remix of a Blondie track was dropped the crowd were loving it and were all dancing in full flow. The added sound effects from the crew were now in full swing as they let rip, adding more layers of sounds to the already excellent records played.

All of a sudden some stunning vocals came in, but they weren't from the record played but live vocals from a lady in the crowd. Hayley was her name and she sings in a band called Deadwasps who incidentially are to play at the next Universal event, which was as a consequence of her cheeky but imaginative actions. This summed up the great spontenanity of the event, Persona kept everyone on their toes quite literally and after some noisy numbers the music tamed a little before some Drum n Bass was played near the end. The event concluded with a Fluke remix of the Rolling Stones "Out of Control" which summed up the night.

The event had closed on a high and as the lights came on and the record faded out an enthusiatic encore erupted from the delighted crowd, who through the difficult heat didn't stop dancing and smiling to the death.
Time for one more? there certainly was, so Lee finished with a Jamie Lidell track which was fitting as it was his Music which rocked at last years festival at the Bridgwater Hall. The Manager of the bar even managed to get the bubbly out for the Persona crew for their innovative effects on this evening of truly sweet sounds!
After the success of this event Simple have asked to book them for another event. So watch out for more Persona action, date to be confirmed.
